Joanna Alexander has worked for UofL Health for three years as a Patient Experience project coordinator with UofL Health – Quality.
In her role, Joanna helps facilitate new projects with the goal of enhancing the organization’s patients and families. Some of her biggest projects include the implementation of Huron Rounding, the development of a new standardized inpatient welcome guide and redesigning and standardizing UofL Health’s patient communication boards.
The projects Joanna creates ultimately impact patients and their families. Her role directly reinforces the organization’s values of striving for patient-centered care. She focuses her work on how the patient or family of the patient is affected.
When asked what her favorite thing about UofL Health is, Joanna explained how the opportunities at UofL Health are one-of-a-kind.
“There are so many things I love about UofL Health, but I would say my favorite thing is the opportunities,” Joanna said. “In my role, I get to work alongside employees across the organization in various ways. This exposure lends itself to many immeasurable opportunities such as continuous learning, new skills development, and relationship building.”
One of her goals is to help create a space where UofL Health’s patients perceive they are safe, loved, informed and satisfied with their care. Joanna’s goal aligns directly with our mission: As an academic health care system, we will transform the health of the communities we serve through compassionate, innovative, patient-centered care.
Joanna was born where the bluegrass meets the foothills of the Appalachia in Berea, Kentucky.
She enjoys spending quality time with her husband and two cats, attending church and trying new restaurants.
If Joanna could only eat one meal for the rest of her life, it would be starchy carbs such as potatoes or bread.
Do you know how to play the piano? You could teach Joanna while enjoying her all-time favorite breakfast dish, chicken biscuits.
In her free time, you can catch Joanna watching “The Chosen” on TV or listening to her favorite song “God is Good.”
Joanna lives by the Bible verse from Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
If you see Joanna out and about, be sure to say “hello” and ask her about her latest Patient Experience Project. She would love to get to know you!
