Carl Wilson, CISSP, HCISPP, CEH, CHCO, has worked at UofL Health for nine years and currently serves as the HIPAA security officer with UofL Health – Compliance, Risk and Audit Services. Carl ensures that UofL Health is adhering to HIPAA in its regular operations. This is accomplished by performing HIPAA security risk assessments, audits of UofL Health – Information Technology and information security practices and policies, plus collaborating with Information Technology in many areas, including HIPAA security awareness and education.
Carl loves working at UofL Health because of the people.
“In all my time with UofL Health people here have a genuine desire to see our organization succeed and that starts with truly caring about our mission and the patients we serve,” Carl explained.
The job Carl performs is ultimately for the benefit of the patients. Our patients deserve to seek care where they will have sound peace of mind that the protected health information they provide to us, such as their name, Social Security number, pre-existing conditions and other information is secured and used appropriately.
Carl’s goal for the organization is to help Compliance, Risk and Audit Services team to achieve their goal of maintaining compliance with all regulatory agencies and being the best healthcare organization for patients.
One thing you may not know about Carl is that he’s an avid artist and dog lover.
Carl was born and raised here in Louisville but attended the University of Maryland for college. However, he couldn’t stay away from Derby City for long.
If you’re looking to take Carl to breakfast, make sure you find a place with plenty of bacon and eggs. Over breakfast, he may tell you about his current favorite shows, like “The Boys,” “The Terminal List” and “Cobra Kai.“
If Carl is driving down the Watterson Expressway, he’s most likely singing along to the great Survivor hit “Eye of the Tiger.”
He lives by the quote from Friedrich Nietzsche, “That which does not kill us makes us stronger.”
