Sonya Bailey, MSN, RN, is one of our many new additions to the UofL Health family. As the new nurse manager of the Emergency Department at UofL Health – Medical Center South, Sonya’s passion for her work is driven by her goal of educating both the nursing staff and members of the Bullitt County community to ensure excellent patient outcomes.
“I look forward to leading this Emergency Department team by working alongside them to provide compassionate, patient-centered care each day,” Sonya said.
Being a nurse manager, Sonya is responsible for interpreting policies, making team member schedules and ensures each of our patients receives excellent care at each visit.
As a graduate of Meade County High School in Brandenburg, Ky., Sonya went on to obtain her master’s of nursing from Bellarmine University. She’s used her education and experience in her nursing leadership roles within inpatient departments at other hospitals.
Sonya discovered UofL Health thanks to Tina Ethington, director of Emergency Services for the medical centers. When she saw the Emergency Room manager position open under Tina at Medical Center South, she just had to apply.
“I have worked with Tina in the past in both inpatient and emergency room nursing roles and knew we would be a great leadership team together for this facility,” Sonya said.
Outside of her role, Sonya is the mother of four adult children, three boys and one girl, and has two grandchildren, a girl and a boy. Her family inspires her in her work also to be a good role model and leader.
Sonya loves French toast but usually only has breakfast on the weekends. During the week she gets her daily bread a bit differently, every morning she starts her day by listening to the podcast, “Enjoying the Journey” for my daily inspirational Bible message. She also attends services at the new Shelby County campus site for Southeast Christian Church.
As the life of the party, if you would like a karaoke showdown, Sonya can throw down from country to rock to rap. Order a large thin crust pepperoni pizza and keep the tracklist going all night long.
If you see Sonya, be sure to say hi! Know how to play guitar or the drums? She would love to learn more from you and be a triple-threat with her singing talents as well.
Welcome to the team, Sonya!
