Leigh Ann Wagoner, MSN, RN, has been with UofL Health for five years. As the stroke educator and a performance improvement coordinator with UofL Health – Stroke, Leigh Ann works with team members, managers and providers to expand stroke education throughout UofL Health as much as possible. Leigh Ann hopes to increase stroke education within each facility, spread positivity, and develop a fun learning and work environment through her role.
Leigh Ann loves working at UofL Health. The energy and care team members have for one another is something she cherishes.
“Our team members’ passion to provide the best quality care to our patients and families is extraordinary,” Leigh Ann said. “They’re also not just co-workers; they’re a family and they care about each other.”
In addition to her role with the Stroke team, she is also Lucie’s handler. Lucie is one of our many therapy dogs that visit with team members, patients and families. She makes them smile and feel a sense of happiness during times of sadness. Leigh Ann hopes to bring Lucie along to community outreach events that the Stroke team organizes throughout the year.
Leigh Ann is originally from Greenville, Ind., and she attended Floyd Center High School. She graduated from Ivy Tech with her associate of science in nursing and later went on to obtain her master’s degree in nursing. She credits going back to school to her friend, Julie Willoughby, the outpatient surgery manager at the UofL Health – Chestnut Street Outpatient Center, who encouraged her to continue her education.
One interesting fact about Leigh Ann is that she loves to drag race. She and her husband travel across the country to participate in different races. Leigh Ann has a 2019 Performance Track Package 5.0 Mustang and her husband has a GT 500. For now, her husband’s car is faster, but she is looking forward to purchasing a VMP Supercharger. She most recently won runner-up in the all-female true-street NMRA.
Do you have a favorite place to grab a slice of pizza? Make sure to take Leigh Ann. Pizza is one of her favorite meals, but a close second is French toast.
If you see Leigh Ann, be sure to ask about her current television shows, “Street Outlaws” and “Outer Banks,” or where she is planning to race next. She would love to get to know you!
