Inspired. That’s how Krista Kane feels as the executive director of Telehealth for UofL Health. After getting to know her, you’ll feel the same.
Krista first began her journey into health care 12 years ago when she was working with the University of Louisville doing administration for Neurosurgery and Neurology. She started her current role at UofL Health in January 2021.
When asked, Krista says her favorite thing about UofL Health is the dedication our staff and providers bring to work each day.
“I’m so proud to work with so many dedicated team members,” Krista said. “Health care is so complex these days, and when I see how hard our team works to take care of the people of Kentucky and Indiana, I feel inspired.”
During the early stages of the coronavirus pandemic, telehealth started to become more popular among patients. Telehealth made it possible for patients to attend their appointments safely and efficiently, and from the comfort of their own homes. Krista is extremely proud to be part of the team that opened telehealth access for UofL Health. She shared that, in just four short days, her team set up access and processes to enable 700 providers to use telehealth to see their patients during the pandemic.
Even as the world starts to regain some normalcy and people begin to re-visit their health care providers face-to-face once again, Krista believes the expansion of telehealth will be the change many communities need.
“UofL Health is committed to using telehealth to provide better health access to underserved areas. My role is to help determine strategies for doing this and connecting the dots from an operations perspective,” Krista said.
Within her role, Krista’s current goal is to make health care more efficient by connecting UofL Health’s impressive team of primary care and specialty providers to patients in the region who don’t have enough local access to care.
“We often see patients from outlying areas travel to downtown Louisville once their condition has progressed to the point where they are very sick. My goal is that we are able through telehealth to diagnose and treat those patients much sooner, in their own homes and communities.”
When Krista isn’t tackling her duties at work, you can find her enjoying a good book. She is currently reading “Minor Feelings: An Asian American Reckoning” by Cathy Park Hong.
Greeting Krista with a furry friend is a guaranteed way to make her day. She’s a certified dog lover and shared that she’s especially obsessed with dachshunds.
“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” Krista’s favorite quote is a strong indicator of how she carries herself as executive director for Telehealth. She is constantly striving for new ways to improve health care and achieve her goals.
