Congratulations to the following UofL Health providers for being among winners of Louisville Business First’s 2022 Health Care Heroes honorees.
Health Equity Champion Award
Keith Miller, M.D., and Muhammad Babar, M.D., were both recipients of the Health Equity Champion award. This honor is for an organization or person who has worked to break down inequities in health care or health care access for underserved populations or areas of our community, including but not limited to, race, gender, sexual orientation or socioeconomic status.
Dr. Miller is a trauma and acute care surgeon at UofL Health – UofL Hospital and serves as faculty with the UofL School of Medicine. He and his team are tasked with caring for the acutely ill and traumatically injured, being involved in research efforts to better understand how to prevent and to treat traumatic injuries and playing a part in training the next generation of physicians and surgeons. To Dr. Miller, a health care hero is “anyone that comes to work with the goal of helping someone transition from illness to wellness or works to prevent illness in the first place.”
Dr. Babar is an internal medicine physician at UofL Health – Mary & Elizabeth Hospital. He also serves as regional hub medical director with Signature Healthcare. For Dr. Babar, a health care hero is every individual who serves in health care.
Both Mark Slaughter, M.D., and Siddharth Pahwa, M.D., were nominated for the Health Care Hero Innovator award. This award honors someone who breaks ground in the health care field by developing or implementing new technology, treatments or programs with wide applications.
Both providers are cardiovascular and thoracic surgeons with UofL Health. Drs. Slaughter and Pahwa were nominated for this award for not only being leaders in their field, but for working in collaboration with the most advanced cardiovascular and thoracic physicians world-wide. Just last year, both providers were a key part of the first-in-the-world heart implant in a woman at UofL Health – Jewish Hospital. You can read more about this world’s first procedure here.
Congratulations to our incredible providers who bring the Power of U to their craft each and every day.
