The 2020 Kentucky Board of Nursing License Renewal period is now open and will last until the Oct. 31 expiration date. As we draw closer to the end of this renewal period, it is imperative to renew your license as soon as possible to avoid any delays.
Since Oct. 31 falls on a Saturday this year, UofL Health HR is requiring that all nursing licenses are renewed by Friday, Oct. 30 so that we can ensure there are no lapses in licensing for our staff.
Amanda Durham-Barnes is leading our KBN licensure project this year and will be sending a list of employees who have NOT renewed their licensure on Oct. 22.
Amanda will be in contact with those who have not renewed their licenses daily beginning on Oct. 26.
For those LPNs and RNs with a primary residence in Indiana, an Indiana nursing compact license is now required to work in Kentucky. This includes the RN licenses for APRNs. KBN will allow the renewal of your Kentucky nursing single state license to those who have started the process but cannot complete the Indiana nursing compact license process before Oct. 31. Updates will be posted in the weekly newsletter and UofL Health Now for more information and some FAQs.
Active employees who do not renew their license or obtain an Indiana compact nursing license by the Oct. 30 deadline will be held to the appropriate disciplinary actions up to termination, as stated in the Licensure, Certification and Registries policy.
Please reach out to your state’s board of nursing with any questions regarding the renewal process.
Provider renewal
If you would like the UofL Physicians Credentials Department to renew the license for a provider, please have them complete this application. The application gives us the necessary information and permission to complete the process.
The process must be completed promptly to remain active with Kentucky and Indiana Medicaid, and so that patients do not experience issues with prescriptions come Nov. 1.
Updated announcement for UofL Health nurses who reside in Indiana
All RN’s with an Indiana primary state of residence (PSOR) who do not complete the entire IN multi-state license (MSL) process prior to Oct. 31 will be permitted to renew their KY RN license during the regular KY renewal period (Sept. 15 – Oct. 31). At the time of renewal in KY, nurses must submit proof to the KBN that they have initiated the IN licensure process. Nurses must meet all requirements for renewal in KY, including CE.
Once the Indiana MSL has been issued, the Indiana Board of Nursing will be notifying the KBN, and the KY license will be inactivated.
For clarification, APRNs with an IN PSOR must obtain an IN RN license to meet the KY APRN licensure requirements, but a “compact” APRN license does not exist. APRN’s must maintain their KY APRN license.
