Do what you say you’re going to do. Always. That’s the mantra our new UofL Health – Peace Hospital geriatric psychiatry inpatient unit Director, Jenny Fultz Brown, strives to live by each day.
Originally from the Jeffersonville/Louisville area, Jenny is new to the UofL Health team; she’s only been with us for a little more than two months. However, she’s already finding our team members’ helpfulness and friendly demeanor to be one of her favorite aspects of the organization. Jenny is also grateful for the large network of resources for patients and staff.
“Being a part of an academic health care system opens up so many doors for our patients to receive excellent care through the different specialties UofL Health has,” said Jenny. “They can receive primary care all the way to specialty care in neurosurgery, cancer care and now geriatric psychiatry.”
Peace Hospital hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new geriatric psychiatry inpatient unit, which is housed in the downtown UofL Health – Frazier Rehabilitation Institute location, June 22. The unit will open to patients July 1.
The secure 20-bed unit is specifically designed for the unique needs of the older adult and provides treatment for a range of mental health and substance use disorders.
Jenny is pleased how UofL Health is taking steps to provide much needed services for the geriatric population.
“This is the only geriatric psychiatry inpatient unit in the Jefferson County area,” said Jenny. “We have a unique opportunity to showcase our UofL Health mission of transforming the health of the communities we serve by offering this unit to the community.”
One of her goals for the new unit and its team members is to develop a culture of safety and produce great outcomes that alter the health and well-being of our patients for the better. She is focused on providing a place of warmth and healing for our patients, but also to a place where team members can thrive and feel like they are a part of something greater than themselves.
Outside of work, Jenny enjoys spending time with her 15-year-old twins, jamming out to anything by Prince or watching her latest TV show, A Million Little Things.
Even though Jenny will root for her UofL Health team members on any given day, she is a huge University of Kentucky fan.
If you want to stay on Jenny’s good side, simply be kind and humble, or bring her a plate of sushi or a nice breakfast meal of poached eggs.
Be sure to stop by the new Geriatric Psychiatry Inpatient Unit at Frazier Rehab and say “hello” to our newest team member. Jenny would love to get to know you!
